The Walia Ibex (Capra walie) is a rare and endangered species of wild goat found only in the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia. Recognized for its majestic curved horns and sturdy build, the Walia Ibex thrives in the rugged, high-altitude cliffs, using its agility to navigate steep terrain. As an endemic species, it holds great ecological and cultural significance in Ethiopia. However, due to habitat loss, hunting, and human encroachment, its population has declined, making conservation efforts critical for its survival. The Walia Ibex is a symbol of Ethiopia’s unique wildlife heritage and a key species in the Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
